Hailing from Greenville, South Carolina, Bay of Bombay was formed by two ambitious young boys, Mac Stewart (electric lead guitar) and James Svacha (acoustic rhythm guitar), who felt the sudden urge to cover the songs of their favourite artists such as Creed and Peal Jam.
Soon after, their project sparked interest in one of their friends, Matt Steven, who joined the band as the Keyboardist and eventually took over as lead vocalist. For a while, as musical interests rapidly changed, the band covered several songs such as Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel and Elephant Gun by Beirut.
It didn't take long for the band to start writing original songs, as Mac whipped up When the Dusk Comes and Matt created Forget the Untitled. The mostly facetious band was quickly turning away from their fun-loving side and became serious with their songwriting. At the same time, a new member, Juan Mesa, was recruited as the Ukulele player. After about a year, Bay of Bombay started preparing for their first live performance at their school's Battle of the Bands. Thereafter, performances at the local coffee shop and a graduation show for their families ensued.
During the summer before college the band decided to perform at open mic night downtown and has ever since been creating new songs and planning new shows in and away from college.
